I may be thinking of this problem orthogonally to the intent of this product... but do you think you could ever make a "task source" plugin system?

For example, a user could "log in" to a issue tracker like Jira/Trac/Bugzilla/Mantis - I think Mylyn does this pretty well.

Maybe the answer is to do some sort of "Hook script" type of thing - it sure would be great to be able to see how long a project really took and what bugs or components ate up most of the time.

Again, this could be the wrong discussion for the wrong product.

As you suspected, you've certainly set foot into Task Force's realm here. =)

I just moved the thread into a new forum so we can start talking to users about this in it's own place.

I think the big problem you will face is that many organizations do not have a public facing issue tracker - so if something changes in the server how will it tell the Issue Tracker? I would suspect that the best means of accomplishing this would be to have GrindStone do the issue tracker adjustments.

Task Force will eventually be available to be run in your own network.

Don't forget Redmine issue tracker, it supports integration using ATOM feeds already.

A project that already does this for tortoise is here: http://www.redmine.org/boards/3/Posttopics/5420
